Alborosie - Soul Pirate European Tour 2008

Alborosie é italiano, nasceu na Sicilia e também é multiinstrumentista. Toca guitarra, baixo, bateria e piano.
Na Jamaica trabalhou também como engenheiro de som e produtor.
Seu currículo inclui trabalhos com diversos artistas do porte de Angie Stone, Jimmy Cozier, Mario, Les Nubian, Manu Chao e etc.
Ano passado o cara começou a colocar vários singles absurdos na pista. Sons como "Kingston Town", "Herbalist", "Call Up Jah" entre outros, abalaram meus ouvidos.
Seu disco de estréia, intitulado "Soul Pirate" já está pronto e deve ser lançado nos próximos meses. Mas esbarrei com essa edição limitada de um promo que ele tá vendendo nos shows.

Known for his mainstream hit single "Kingston Town", Italian born Reggae Singer / Songwriter / Producer Alborosie is fast becoming the next big reggae superstar out of Jamaica.
He lives in Jamaica since 2001 and beside singing he plays guitar, piano, bass and drums. His vocals remind me Kymani Marley but with a different accent, an italian accent.
Aside from reinventing the vintage rock steady sound as an artist Alborosie has been testing the mainstream market as a producer. He has worked with many successful international acts like Mario, Angie Stone, Les Nubians, Jimmy Cozier and Manu Chao while locally Sizzla, Wayne Marshall, Beenie Man and Voice Mail have all shared in his creative vision.

Eddie Kendricks, ex The Temptations, mostra nessa coletânea toda a vibração de suas canções. Bem soul/blaxploitation, o cara é um p*** vocalista, manjava tudo. Emplacou diversos hits durante a década de 70 qdo todos pensavam que deixar os Tempations seria sua ruína.
Infelizmente nos deixou em 1992 aos 52 anos, devido a um cancer no pulmão.

Eric Lau - New Territories (2008)

Baixei esse disco nem me lembro de onde, exclusive esqueci que tinha ele, até hoje. Estava dando uma fuçada em minhas pastas e pensei: que parada é essa? Comecei a ouvir e comecei a curtir, RnB de qualidade é comigo mesmo. Me lembrou de cara um monte de coisas, Dj Cam, Platinum Pied Pipers, Bilal, D'angelo, Pete Rock e de certa forma até Roy Ayers. Pianos elegantes, efeitos e sinths bacanas e os tão agradáveis "bitz ol'school in a jazzie vibe". Os vocais belíssimos no melhor estaine Erikah Badu, ficam por conta da cantora Rahel que acompanha as criações do produtor londrino na maioria das faixas.
Cheio de Soul e Suíngue este disco é mais do que recomendadíssimo por este que vos escreve, fazia um bom tempo que não ouvia um disco de RnB nesse naipe e dessa envergadura, não é nada surpreendente e até por isso surpreende tanto, um disco sólido do incio ao final, sem muita frescura, no melhor estilo menos é mais mas nesse caso...menos é muito mais.
Baixa ae, vale!!!!

The production skills of Eric Lau are powered by his love of manipulating sound in a soulful manner. Influenced by artists like Jay Dee, Pete Rock, D'angelo, ?uestlove, James Poyser, Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers, and Shuggie Otis, he seeks to walk in thier path of genre-busting, quality soul releases while adding a twist of his own. Using a blend of samples and instrumentation, his music already spans a variety of different genres and his collaborations with an eclectic collective of soul singers, musicians, dj's, rappers and producers with the same mind set will help push the envelope further.

Baita disco do soulman Don Julian e seus Meadowlarks, cheio de nuances , grooves e balancos. Composto originalmente como trilha sonóra para um filme que na verdade nunca foi lançado este play é considerado raridade entre os apreciadores de boa música, dizem que uma cópia sem edições do filme esta nas mãos do diretor Quentin Tarantino mas dae até saber se é verdade......Fato é que você pode agora ter essa pérola em seu HD, na melhor onda do Super Fly do Curtis, é o cutis camaradinha, é o cutis!!!! os caras chegaram a compor um som chamado Super Slick, mas as outras faixas ou melhor o disco todo merece ser ouvido com muita atenção e respeito. É soul, groove com pitadas latinas.

Bobby Valentino - Bobby valentino (2005)

Bom disco de R&B do então estreiante cantor Bobby Valentino. As vezes pode soar meio mellow demais mas tudo depende da companhia e da situação. Bobby manda bem, a produção é bacana e os arranjos estão bonitaços.

It's easy to imagine R&B crooner Bobby Valentino stretched out on a crimson, crushed-velvet couch as he delivered his self-titled debut. This pillow-talky album must have been recorded with candles filling the recording studio, but you can bet there was the faint smell of patchouli too. Valentino's first full-length has mystical touches in its overall slick and sexy production, touches that help separate the album from the competition in a way the everyday songwriting doesn't. Pan flutes, atmospheric interludes, and French women cooing sweet nothings flesh out the album, an album that's 99.9 percent "for the ladies," save an appearance from Valentino's main man, Ludacris. As limited as this sounds, Valentino and producers Tim Kelley and Bob Robinson make the album seem a lot more diverse than it really is by alternating the "let's get busy right now" numbers with the "you're very special, let's take this slow" numbers. That otherworldly production helps a lot too, as does Valentino's committed delivery, sounding like he's not at all tired of this sensual material, so why should you be? His Babyface-like voice is above average without a theatrical edge but with a charismatic street swagger and just the right touch of humble joy. As they would say in the tech world, "Slow Down" is the killer app, a single good enough to buy the whole album. Past the single, Bobby Valentino the album doesn't disappoint, but it is a bit frustrating when the smart music and bold "Real R&B Singers Needed" sign point to grander possibilities. Of course, it is a debut and, considering that, pulling a daring punch or two is forgiven. If he keeps on the path of breaking the R&B crooner rule book and really lets his inner maverick out, Valentino will go farther than competition can even imagine.

Biz Markie - Weekend Warrior (2003)

Li umas criticas bem negativas sobre este disco, tenho ele guardado ha algum tempo e ja cheguei a usar uma ou duas faixas em algumas discotecagens.
Sinceramente não acho que este trabalho mereça realmente um grande destaque dentro da discografia do breaktrough rapper Biz Markie mas ao mesmo tempo acredito que está longe de ser um disco ruim.
Naquele momento (2003) dominado por Ja rule, Nelly e Jay-zyonce este disco chegou a ser uma brisa de ar puro, beats descompromissados e rimas mais descompromissadas ainda.
Na minha opinião vale a pena, bom entretenimento.
Frase do dia: Biz Markie é Biz Markie e vice-versa.

Frank McComb - Truth (2007)

Frank McComb ficou conhecido no mundo da música pela sua participação nos dois discos do Buckshot Lefonque, coletivo megafodástico criado pelo saxofonista americano Brandford Marsalis.
Mas algum tempo antes disto o vocalista e pianista ja havia tocado com o Dj Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince tanto em estúdio quanto em turnê.
As principais influências do músico são o Soul, o Jazz e o Gospel, tudo isso fica muito claro qdo se escuta este play, que além de belos vocais e arranjos possuí uma espécie de aura Mississipiana, se é que pode-se chamar desta maneira, é som de preto, feito com qualidade e sentimento, assim como toda música independente do estilo deveria ser feita.

Trabalho bastante interessante do ex (ou não) skatista pro das antigas Tommy Guerrero. Bastante influências de Jazz latino e alguma coisa de lounge eletrônico passeiam tranquilamente por entre os grooves simples porém sofisticados e até de certa forma hipnóticos que Tommy manda.
Uma boa pedida, não ira mudar sua vida mas com certeza você passará uma hora agradável, bom pra deixar rolando de fundo, saca?

A Filial - A Filial (2002)

Hip Hop Rio de primeira qualidade, letras maNemolentes e divertidas. Instrumentais bem produzidos e sacadas inteligentes. Estes vagabundos ficaram quase 3 meses na minha casa em Poa divulgando o trabalho deles no sul, viramos amigos e também pude ver diversos shows deles, constatando a qualidade dos caras ao vivo também. Os mc's Edu Lopes, Nhogi e o Dj Castro tocarram o terror em solo gaúcho, ou pelo menos tentaram da melhor forma possível, bombando raps e o que pintasse pra tomar.
Hoje em dia a banda esta prestes a lançar um cd novo por uma gravadora americana (é mole não), com uma proposta completamente diferente do que se escuta por ae se tratando de Hip Hop e também com uma formatação diferente, mais bossasoulgroovempb du répi.
Além das 6 faixas que fazem parte do disco, tomei a liberdade de colocar mais 4 faixas bônus que os caras me enviaram com o passar dos anos.
